CORTLAND, N.Y. – West Genesee scored three straight goals over the first 2:30 of the second half and Hannah Elmer had four goals and five assists to lead the Wildcats to a 15-10 victory over No. 3 West Islip today in the New York Class A girls’ championship at SUNY-Cortland.
West Genesee won its seventh state title in seven tries and dealt West Islip (21-1) its first loss. This all came after a grueling triple overtime win Friday over Pittsford.
West Genesee (20-1) – ranked No. 13 in the Brine/TopLaxRecruits rankings – started with a 5-1 lead but allowed three goals at the end of the first half.
Elmer, the Game’s MVP and daughter of legendary West Genesee coach Bob Elmer, scored to start the second half run and then assisted on two goals by Jackie Pardee and Lexie Meager.
The Lions later drew within 11-8, but West Genesee got a goal from Mackenzie Baker and Elmer to seal it.
Riley Donahue had three goals and an assist and Jackie Pardee added three goals, while Grace Osterdale scored twice.
Lena Riportella had five goals to lead West Islip, while Vanessa Costantino had three goals and an assist.
