From Press Release

Mount Saint Joseph is pleased to announce the hiring of Stephen Berger ’00 as coach of the varsity lacrosse team. Berger currently plays attack for the Boston Cannons and serves as the Men’s Game Director at US Lacrosse.

Berger played lacrosse while at the Mount and continued on to play for Washington College as he pursued a degree in sociology. During his collegiate career, he was a three-time All-American – garnering 1st-Team honors in his junior and senior seasons, while getting the 2nd-Team nod his sophomore year. He was named 2004 Senior Midfielder of the Year and served the Shoremen as captain for two years. In addition, he was also the Centennial Conference Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004.breaking-news1

He joined the 2004 Collegiate Draft and was selected by the Long Island Lizards, where he stayed from 2004-2011. Berger was traded to the Charlotte Hounds, a new MLL franchise in North Carolina, in 2012. In 2013, he returned to play for the New York Lizards (renamed from Long Island Lizards) until he was traded to the Boston Cannons in July of that year.

In addition to playing, Berger was the Graduate Assistant Coach for Washington College from 2004-2006 and recently served as an assistant coach at Severna Park High School.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to return to my roots and encourage a love of lacrosse at the high school level,” said Berger. “Mount Saint Joseph helped turn me into the man, and lacrosse player, that I am today. To give back to a school that provided me with both a solid academic and athletic base is another way for me to share my passion for the sport.”

Other lacrosse accolades for Berger include: 2006 U.S. men’s national team alternate, participation in the 2008 Champion Challenge, selection to 2010 U.S. men’s lacrosse training team, and competing in the 2011-12 U.S. men’s national team events, 2011 Champion Challenge, 2011 Stars and Stripes, and 2012 Champion Challenge.

He will continue to serve as Men’s Game Director for US Lacrosse while coaching.
