From Press Release
There wasn’t anything or anyone that was going to stop Jersey Thunder in the high school divisions at the sixth annual Meltdown Lacrosse Tournament last weekend at Abington High School.
Thunder made sure to double up on the hardware Sunday as its 2015 West team took out NJLC, 8-6, for the A division title. Not to be outdone, Thunder 2016 put on a defensive clinic en route to a 9-0 whitewashing of Low and Away that ensured the sweep of the two divisions and a pair of Maxwell K. Brindle Cups.
Jersey Thunder was far from the only team to come away with a trophy, though. Leading Edge (NJ) rolled to a 9-3 triumph over Hard Shells in the 2018 title game, while HEADstrong North (PA) cruised to a 10-2 victory over Leading Edge to claim the 2019 division.
Crabs 2020 (MD) emerged from the No. 3 overall seed to upend Rising Sons 2020 (PA), 7-5, in a tightly-contested sixth-grade championship game. The Rising Sons 2021 team flipped the script on the Crabs, 10-4, to come away with the fifth-grade Brindle Cup.
LB3 2022 (PA) pulled off a minor upset as the No. 2 seed in the fourth-grade final, doubling up top-seeded Rock’Em Rebels, 6-3. Second-seeded Delta House locked the door to their net and threw away the key to highlight a 6-0 win over top-seeded Springfield in the second/third grade division championship game.
“It was great to see such a diverse group of teams competing for the Brindle Cup and I was ecstatic to have so many teams join us at Abington for another successful Meltdown,” Meltdown founder Colin Ambler said. “We’re hoping for even bigger and better things next year. Thanks to all of the teams for a successful weekend and a big congratulations to all of our champions!”
