From Press Release

NXTsports is proud to announce that the 2014 Philly Showcase weekend will begin with the fifth annual Philly Charity Showdown on Friday, November 14. The Philly Charity Showdown is excited to return to Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

This year, the NXTsports Philly Charity Showdown is also proud to announce a new charitable partner, as the event will raise money to support the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the new Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center.

This year’s Philly Charity Showdown will serve as a celebration of Philadelphia lacrosse, and will feature many of the area’s best high school and club programs, along with several national guests. The full list of teams participating in the Philly Charity Showdown and the event format and schedule will be released next week.Jefferson Health

Said Andy Hayes, President of NXT, “The Philly Charity Showdown has become one of the biggest events on the annual lacrosse calendar. We can’t wait to return to Citizens Bank Park, one of the most unique and special venues for lacrosse that I’ve ever seen, and we are very grateful to the Philadelphia Phillies for their support. Most importantly, as an organization that dedicates itself to participant safety, NXT is proud to raise money to support the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center. Concussion awareness and treatment are among the most important safety issues in youth sports. NXT can’t wait to put on a great show and raise money for an important cause.”

Joe Giles, Philadelphia Phillies Director of Business Development, stated, “The Philadelphia Phillies and Citizens Bank Park are happy to welcome the Philly Charity Showdown back to Citizens Bank Park. Citizens Bank Park is a world-famous venue and will provide a great setting for many of the area’s best lacrosse players to demonstrate their skills. We look forward to again hosting the Philly Charity Showdown at Citizens Bank Park and wish the best of luck to all of the athletes in action.”

Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center treats patients with many backgrounds, from senior citizens to professional athletes. The Center offers advanced diagnostic and treatment options and specializes in complex cases.

The primary research goal of the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center is to develop a biomarker (a measurable indicator that shows that a concussion has taken place) and risk calculator that can enable doctors, coaches and players to determine the severity of a concussion and if and when it is safe to return to play. NXT’s funding will play a critical role in advancing this research.

Mijail Serruya, MD, PhD, and Rob Franks, DO, the Co-Directors of the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center, enthusiastically welcome NXT’s support.

“The Holy Grail of concussion treatment is to find a biomarker,” said Dr. Serruya. “We are also gearing up to do several other studies, including ones to see if certain vitamins can improve brain function and accelerate recovery from concussion, if daily exposure to a special kind of bright light can restore healthy sleep after concussion, and to look carefully at particular cognitive rehabilitation and physical therapy interventions that can get players back in the game and back to their studies in a safe, healthy manner.”

Tickets for the Event (All Net Ticket Proceeds to Benefit the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center)

The Philly Charity Showdown at Citizens Bank Park is open to the public. General admission tickets are $20 for adults, and kids under 12 are welcome to attend for free. NXT will also host a special catered VIP reception in the Citizens Bank Park Group Suites, featuring food and drinks with net proceeds going to Jefferson.
