Brine NLC girls’ HS championship: Long Island coasts past New Jersey, 9-3, for crown

BOYDS, Md. – Kristin Anderson (Eastport-South Manor, 2014) scored three goals and Carolyn Carrera (Riverhead, 2014) added two as Long Island coasted to a 9-3 victory today over New Jersey for the Brine National Lacrosse Classic High School Girls’ Championship at the Maryland Soccerplex.

Long Island led, 5-1, at halftime and stretched its lead to 9-1 late in the game.

“We only had like four players from last year’s team and we didn’t know one another at the beginning,” said Carrera. “I thought after we lost to Pennsylvania (9-6 on Tuesday) that we realized we had to step it up.

“Against Florida it all came together (12-1 win). I loved it. It was awesome. We all hung out and really got along so well.”

Academy Girls Championship
In the Academy title game, New Jersey edged Long Island, 7-6, on a late goal by Brielle Huddy (rising freshman at Moorestown).

“We wanted it so bad. It was one of the greatest feelings,” said Huddy, who scored two goals. “We just connected so well”
