TOWSON, Md. – Cortney Fortunato (Northport, N.Y.) collected four goals and four assists and earned MVP honors as the North used an 8-0 run to gain an 18-16 victory Saturday night over the South in the Under Armour Senior Girls’ All-American Game at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium.

“It’s a real big honor,” said Fortunato, who is headed to Notre Dame. “Everybody out here is incredible. It is an awesome experience.

“It was a really good game. I am really happy that it was close. It went back and forth the entire time. It wasn’t boring. “
The benefactor of the second-half explosion by the North was goalie Emily Kift (Foothill, Calif., signed with Maryland), who made four saves.

“I was honored to get picked, especially coming from the West Coast,” said Kift, who was joined by Carondelet (CA) attack Erin Jeffery. “Me and Erin were excited to represent the West.

“It was really exciting. It was a whole nother level and it was nice to get the experience before college, It was anyone’s game and it was nice to see both teams could come back from a big deficit.”

The South was led by East Chapel Hill (NC) midfielder Sydney Holman (North Carolina), who had four goals. The South featured 15 players from Maryland.

“It was just unbelievable,” said Marriotts Ridge midfielder Zoe Stukenberg (Maryland), who had one gola and a groundball. “Everyone was out there having a great time.

“Seeing the talent come together in such a short time and watching the chemistry is what it’s all about. Six of us played together in club (M&D) since elementary school.

“And I had heard in the newspapers about some of the other girls – it was great to play with or against girls from Georgia and (California). They were all amazing athletes and amazing girls.”
