Team Turnpike (N.J.) defeated the Duke’s Lacrosse Club (PA), 4-3, Sunday to claim the 2014 Division championship at the National Invitational Best of the Best Team Showcase in Uniondale, N.Y.
Sheamus Larkin (Midfield, 2014, Notre Dame), Mitchell Hagan (Midfield, 2014, Rutgers Prep), Aaron Bennett (Attack, 2014, Rancocas Valley) and Connor Parke (Midfield, 2014,Monroe Twp,) scored goals in the final.
The goalies included Joseph Riccadonna (2014, Immaculata) and Kevin Boland (2014, Notre Dame). The defense was led by Michael Adler (2014, Allentown), Salvatore Fama (2014, Immaculata) and John Bowers (2014, Notre Dame), The LSM’s were Nico Sferra (2014, Notre Dame) and Christian Pung (2015, Immaculata).
The attack was led by Tom Deiner (2014, CBA), Dylan Dobrosky (2016, Hunterdon Central) and Matt Purdy (2014, Princeton) and the midfield was led by Max Miller (2014, Hunterdon Central), Andrew Monahan (2014, St. Joseph) and Ryan Sohmer (2014, Montgomery).
Larkin was a standout at the face-off X.
The following players made key contributions throughout the weekend but were injured and unable to play in the semis and finals: Matthew Proodian (Midfield, 2014, Somerville), Wian Coetzer (Midfield, 2014, Hillsborough) and Mike Dimino (Defense, 2014, Somerville).
“We had guys stepping up all tournament long,” said coach Kerry Weigner. “We were missing five of our top players (due to other events) and we lost three guys to injuries before the playoffs.”
Team Turnpike had defeated the CT Chargers, 6-1, to reach the finals.
Team Turnpike’s 2015 team went undefeated in pool play, but fell to Leading Edge (N.J.), in the semifinals.
