McDonogh School (MD) dominated from the start and coasted to an 18-5 victory tonight over host Milton (GA) in a much-anticipated game between two of the nation’s top-ranked teams.
McDonogh, the consensus No. 1 team for the past five years and the top team in the STEPS Lacrosse Girls’ Rankings, improved to 2-0 and won its 114th straight game. Milton, No. 12 and the five-time big-school state champion, fell to 4-1.
The Eagles, who have not lost since April 11 of 2009, broke open a 1-1 game with seven of the next eight goals and led, 10-3, at halftime.
Julia Hoffman and Catie May each had three goals to lead the attack, while Olivia Jenner, Brindi Griffin and Andie Aldave each scored two. Kelsey Cummings, Caroline Lewis, Andie Aldave and Sydni Thacker, Elizabeth George and Maddie Jenner each scored once.
McDonogh had defeated another top Georgia team, Walton, 15-2, in its opener on Thursday. The Eagles play Saturday night at Chattahoochee (5-2).
