East Grand Rapids (MI) 2015 attack Liza Elder has been named the TopLaxRecruits.com Girls’ Player of the Week.
Elder has five goals and an assist April 20 in a key 11-10 overtime win over Rockford (MI) in a battle of undefeated team. Elder, a Northwestern signee, has helped lead the three-time defending state Division II champion Pioneers to an 11-0 start.
How you feel your performance helped lead to the win over Rockford last week?
Elder: “I just tried to stay positive and encourage my team to fight for every 50/50 ball, play smart, and never give up. I think that really helped my team and I persevere!”
What does your team need to focus on in its pursuit of a fourth straight state championship?
Elder: “I think continually working hard and never becoming complacent will really help us get our fourth state championship. Our coaches talk to us a lot about doing the little things and how once we do the little things, the big things will take care of themselves. We try to take this into consideration every practice and every game as we move forward.”
What are your personal goals for this season?
Elder: “Some personal goals of mine are to become the best lacrosse player I can be, break my point totals from last year, and win a fourth state championship!”
What are your team’s goals?
Elder: “Our team’s goals are to obviously make it back to the championship, become closer and more cohesive as a unit, and also to beat some very competitive teams out of the state of Michigan.”
