It came perhaps one day late, but who can argue with 600 career wins?

Landon School veteran coach Rob Bordley reached the 600-win milestone Saturday when his host Bears defeated The Heights (MD) 9-3. The win came one day after Landon dropped a shocking 6-5, four-overtime decision to St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (VA) in a DC Interstate Athletic Conference game.Boys high school

With a 15-8 win Tuesday over Churchill (MD), the Bears are 16-2 and Bordley is 601-113 in his 40th year as head coach.

Landon School is 2-1 in the IAC, tied with St. Stephen’s and Georgetown Prep. The Bears are ranked No. 11 in the Epoch Lacrosse North America Rankings.

Bordley, a 1966 Landon grad, has received five Washington Post Coach of the Year awards and won 22 straight IAC titles from 1981-2002. In all, he has won 28 league titles at Landon.

Under Bordley, Landon solidified its status on the national scene by finishing the 1999 and 2001 seasons ranked No. 1 in the country by Lacrosse Magazine. Between those seasons, the Bears racked up a 55-3 record, and a record number of players from those teams went onto NCAA Division I programs.

In 2002, the team went undefeated and was again selected by Lacrosse Magazine as the best team in the country. In 2006, six of those 2002 graduates captained their collegiate teams, and Matt Ward ’02 won the Tewaaraton Award as the best college player in the nation, after leading the Virginia Cavaliers to the NCAA national championship in 2006.
