Long Island boys’ championship: Cold Spring Harbor rolls past Babylon for crown

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Colin Burke Tallied five goals to spark Cold Spring Harbor to a 15-5 victory over Babylon in the boys’ Class C Long Island Championship game Saturday at Stony Brook University.Cold Spring Harbor celebrates the Long Island Class C championship

The Section 8 champion Seahawks (17-1) advance to play Section 1 champ Pleasantville on Wednesday at 3:30pm at Middletown High School in the state semifinals. Pleasantville advanced with a 17-3 rout of Rondout Valley.

“This was awesome,” said Burke. “Our offense played great when we had to and our defense played awesome. The beginning of the game was a little iffy but coach (Dennis) Bonn calmed us down and we just came out and we just exploded out of halftime.”

Cold Spring Harbor used an 8-0 run to break a 2-2 first-period tie as. Matt Licciardi won 16 of 21 face-offs, Ian Laviano tallied three goals and one assist, Taylor Strough tallied two goals and one assist and Ryan Winkoff tallied one goal and three assists.

“This is a wonderful feeling,” said Bonn. “You feel good for everybody on the team. We have been fortunate to be here seven times and this is the second time we won.

“It is hard to get off the Island. I think we have that team this year that understands the last two years we came up short in the counties. I think that fueled us for this year. We didn’t look past anyone this year and we won’t look past Pleasantville.”

Brendan Watt grabbed eight saves and Jerry Brown tallied two goals and one assist for Babylon (17-2).
