Salesianum School (DE) rising junior defenseman Connor Freeborn has committed to play Division I lacrosse at the United States Naval Academy.
Connor Freeborn ledger:
High school: Salesianum School
Graduation year: 2015
Position: Defense
College choice: United States Naval Academy
Club affiliation: Rebel Elite
Major lacrosse honors, camps and showcases: Delaware State Champs, 2012, 2013; Blue Chip 225 Elite; Big 4 Showcase/All Star; Brine National – Philadelphia; Super Sophs; Top 225; MVP; Under Armour Showcase
What will you major in/study: “I’m not sure, yet what my major will be. The Naval Academy offers so much opportunity. Most important, I look forward to serving our country as an officer in the US Navy or Marines.”
Why did you choose school: “Several members of my family attended the Naval Academy and have gone on to successful careers in the Navy and later, in business. My commitment to military service opens the door to a world of opportunities.”
“Lacrosse has a long and great tradition at Navy, and I look forward to playing for Coach (Rick) Sowell, Coach (Ryan) Wellner and Coach (J.L.) Reppert as they build on this tradition. It will also be great to continue playing with my Salesianum teammate, Ryan Kern. Playing lacrosse for the Navy in the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is a dream.”
Outlook for your high school team: “Salesianum had its best year in history in 2013 and our team was ranked in the top 25 nationally in all polls. We beat some great out of state teams and won the Delaware State Lacrosse championship for the fifth time in seven years, and third year in a row. We will do it again in 2014.”
Thank You: “I’m very fortunate to play for Salesianum and for Coach Bob Healy and Coach Shawn Plews. I can’t thank them enough for dedicating their time and effort every day to help each of us become better lacrosse players, and a better team.
“I also want to thank my Club Coach, Harry Sankey, for helping me better understand what it takes to become a college level player.”
“As a young player, my excitement for the game began with the Wilmington Wings. I would like to thank Carol Spiker for her dedication to the Wings and to her friendship with all of us who have played for her over the years.
“And finally, my parents, my sisters, and my brother for being proud supporters of me.”
