Staff Report
Grant Ament (Haverford School, PA/Penn State) and Colton Rupp (Landon School, MD/Cornell) each had two goals and an assist and Alec Orazietti (Watchung Hills, N.J./Lafayette) added two goals to lead a balanced attack as Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) routed Bar Down Lacrosse (N.H.), 11-2 in the Lake Placid Classic U18 Silver Division championship today.
FCA, a team with all 2015 players, scored the final 10 goals of the game to cruise to the win. Henry Grass (Bronxville, N.Y./Johns Hopkins) added a goal and an assist.
In all today, FCA won three championships as it took U18 Gold title with a 9-7 win over the Buffalo Soldiers and also won the girls’ U16 crown with a victory over Mass Elite Red (score unavailable).
In the U18 Gold title game, Culver Academy (IN) rising senior Joel Tinney (2014, Johns Hopkins) tallied four goals and earned the MVP award.
In the U19 championship, the Baltimore Crabs toppled Liberty (N.Y.), 9-6, as Justin Guterding (Garden City, NY/Duke) won the MVP award with a goal and four assists. In the U16 title game, the Long Island Outlaws 2016 (N.Y.) defeated Academy Mortgage (MD), 6-3, as Jack Hannigan collected three goals and one assist.
In the first-ever Girls’ 2017-18 Division, the Long Island Dazzling Divas went 5-0 to win the title.
Ament said the FCA team – called the Super Sophomores – was loaded with talent. But more importantly, he said the team bonded through its faith.
“The talent on the team was so great,” he said. “I think three-fourths of the team was already committed so it was not hard to adapt.
Also through huddles and group meetings, we focused on our faith wand it was a relaxing approach. The coaches told us to play relaxed and that made it a lot easier on all of us.”
