The Philadelphia girls and Baltimore boys won the U16 championships Thursday at the JCC Maccabi Games in Orange County, Calif.
The JCC Maccabi Games n Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and is the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world.
Philly repeated as Maccabi girls’ champion by routing Baltimore, 16-6. The Philly team featured balanced scoring and solid goaltending from Shayna Silverman (Baldwin School) and Devon Scharf (Lower Merion).
The team also featured Jesse Rubin (Friends’ Central), Abby Goldstein (Lower Merion), Vanessa Auritt (Baldwin School), Julia Greitzer (Baldwin School), Avital Schweitzer (Friends’ Central), Eliza Mantelmacher (Baldwin School), Izzy Schaeffer (Baldwin School), Ellie Greenberg (Baldwin School) and Hannah Anderson (Friends’ Central).
The Baltimore boys also went undefeated (6-0) and toppled Orange County, 12-8, for the championship in the 7v7 style play. Hunter Flaks (Gilman School) led the offense with six goals in the title game and Daniel Ferber (St. Paul’s) scored twice, while Eli Friedman (Park), Sam Friedman (Park), Aaron Cranston (Gilman School) and Slade Parsons (Pikesville) each had one goal.
