Why consider Essex?

The Knights announced that nine of their student-athletes have made commitments to NCAA schools for the 2016 season.

Nick Mazza, Sophomore, Midfielder (Calverton School) – Despite missing eight games with an injury, Mazza scored 17 goals and had 20 assists in 10 games. He was selected to the NJCAA All-American Second Team, All Maryland JUCO First Team and All Region XX First Team. He had his best game on March 28 against Northern Virginia C.C., scoring five goals and three assists. Mazza will be attending and playing lacrosse at the University of Maryland next school year.

Max Edelman, Sophomore, Goalie (Middletown) – Edelman finished the season with a 7.37 goals against average and 66.5 save percentage, ranking No. 3 in the NJCAA in both categories. His list of post season honors includes NJCAA All-American Second Team, All Maryland JUCO First Team, All Region XX First Team and Defensive Player of the Year for both Maryland JUCO and Region XX. He will continue his collegiate career at Rutgers University on a full scholarship.

Tommy Brown, Sophomore, Defense (Boys’ Latin School) – The Towson native spent two seasons on the Knights defense and, often matched up on the opponents most dangerous attacker, he did not disappoint. Brown this season earned All Maryland JUCO First Team, All Region XX First Team and NJCAA All-American First Team honors. He will continue his collegiate career as a Fightin’ Blue Hen at the University of Delaware.

Will Manganiello, Freshman, Attack (Penncrest) – Manganiello played just one season for the Knights, but what a season! The Media, Pa. native scored 47 goals (No. 4 in the NJCAA) and added 16 assists. He scored a career-high six goals on May 9 against Nassau C.C. in an NJCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship semifinal. Manganiello was selected to the NJCAA All-American First Team, All Maryland JUCO First Team and All Region XX First Team. He will attend and continue playing lacrosse for Drexel University beginning this fall.

Cameron Stone, Sophomore, Attack (Foothill) – All the way from Tustin, Calif. (2,674 miles away), Stone enjoyed an amazing two years at CCBC Essex. He scored 69 goals and had 25 assists in 34 games with the Knights. This season, Stone earned All Maryland JUCO First Team and All Region XX Second Team honors. Those wishing to see him play at the next level need only travel 62 miles from CCBC Essex to Mount St. Mary’s University in Frederick, Md.

Troy Karpinski, Sophomore, Defense (Manheim Township) – Originally from Lancaster, Pa., Karpinski made a home for himself on defense for the Knights. He was a critical part of a unit that only allowed 6.71 goals per game over the last two seasons. Karpinski has decided to continue his collegiate career at the University of Mary Washington.

Jake Brown, Sophomore, Midfield (John Carroll School) – Brown spent the last two seasons as a faceoff specialist for the Knights. As a freshman, he won 63 percent of draws, but that number grew dramatically this season as he won 73 percent of his faceoffs. Brown will continue collegiately at nearby Stevenson University.

Ross Dinan, Sophomore, Goalie (Geneva) – Although Dinan was a reserve goalie for the Knights the last two seasons, he made the best of every opportunity he received. In 19 games at CCBC Essex, he has a 6.32 goals against average and saved better than 60 percent of shots that came his way. A very talented goalie in his own right, Dinan will attend and play lacrosse for Assumption College beginning this fall.

Tyler Utz, Sophomore, Defense, (Bel Air) – Another gifted defender, Utz is a tenacious and hardworking lacrosse player. He also scored two goals with the long pole this season, one March 24 against Cecil College and the other March 28 at Northern Virginia C.C. Utz will attend McDaniel College to continue his collegiate career.
