Brindi Griffin scored five goals, Savannah Buchanan tallied three goals and Maddie Jenner added two goals and two assists as McDonogh School defeated Milton (GA), 12-2, Saturday in a battle of top-ranked girls’ lacrosse teams at Vero Beach, FL.Girls high school

The win completed a perfect 3-0 Florida trip for McDonogh to start the season. The Eagles are ranked No. 1 in the STEPS Lacrosse North America Rankings and now have won 136 straight games.

McDonogh, which also got a goal and four assists from Andie Aldave, also gained a 20-4 win over Florida’s Ponte Vedra (10-3) on Friday after defeating Vero Beach (10-3), 13-8, on Wednesday.

Emily Velez and Hannah Demis scored for 15th-ranked Milton (5-1), which also defeated Vero Beach, 7-5,on Friday.

Milton coach Tim Godby said his defense was strong vs. McDonogh, but his offense struggled. Miklton tallied the first goal, but McDonogh led, 6-1, at halftime.

“We were looking forward to our game with McDonogh,” said Godby. “They have a phenomenal team and we get to see how we stack up with the best team in the country.

We scored the first goal of the game and then had a tough time scoring”Our defense played great for the majority of the game. We were frustrating McDonogh and they were not able to run their offense. We were not able to generate any offense to go along with our defensive effort.”

In Milton’s win over Vero Beach, the Eagles led, 4-2, at halftime and after Vero tied it, 4-4, Milton tallied three unanswered goals.

“Vero really played a great game defensively,” said Godby. “Their goalie was outstanding. We controlled possession in the game but struggled to score.

“We made some adjustments midway through the second half and were able to score three goals to seal the win. Our defense was solid and we had a great game in goal by Bridget Deehan (9 saves).”

For Milton, Sophie Baez (2 goals), Jessi Masinko (1 goal, 2 assists, 2 caused turnovers, Velez (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 caused turnovers), Courtney Hutchinson (1 goal, 1 caused turnover), Jen Shield (1 goal), Demis (1 goal) and Sydney Catts (5 draw controls) led the way.
