GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Kevin Winkoff tallied three goals to boost defending state champion Cold Spring Harbor to an 8-6 victory over Babylon Saturday in the Long Island Class C Championship at Hofstra University.

The Seahawks (16-1, ranked 13th in the C2C North America Rankings) advance to the New York state Class C semifinals Wednesday at Hofstra (5:30 p.m.) where they meet Section 1 champion Pleasantville, a 21-7 winner over Rondout Valley.

The Panthers, who also lost to CSH in last year’s county title game, finished at 14-5.

“I think we executed everything that we practiced all week,” said Winkoff. “We possessed the ball like we wanted to and we just played good all around. I think we have good chemistry going. We are all in a good grove right now and we are hoping to go to states.”

Cold Spring Harbor seized a 7-1 halftime lead and staved off a late rally by the Seahawks. Matt Licciardi and Ian Laviano tallied one goal and two assists each for Cold Spring Harbor.
“The only thing I can say about today is that we are moving on and I’m happy for the kids,” said Cold Spring Harbor head coach Dennis Bonn. “My hats off to John and Babylon, they did a great job. We were up 7-1 and we come out of the half man down and we stopped it.

“But then they get one and they get two, all of a sudden it is 7-3 and they get excited. We get one back to make it 8-3 to kind of settle things. But they didn’t go away and I didn’t expect them to go away. They are a proud program and have tough kids.

“I’m happy about our kids even though we didn’t play great I thought we did a very good job of managing the ball at the end. We get to play Wednesday and that is what it is about.”
Scott Sasso tallied two goals and one assist and Nick Antolini tallied two goals for Babylon.

“Hats off to Cold Spring Harbor,” said Babylon head coach John Greaney. “That’s two in a row for them. They are a great team with a great coach. They have a good group of seniors over there. Great win for them.”
