CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sara Klaben scored with 4:28 to play to help Baldwinsville rally past Suffern, 9-8, today in the New York Class A girls’ lacrosse semifinals at SUNY-Cortland.

The Section 3 champion Bees (15-5) advance to play Section 8 champion Farmingdale, a 10-6 winner over Penfield, in the title game Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Baldwinsville had trailed, 8-6, after Alli Iodice scored with 11:02 to play for Section 1 champ Suffern (18-4).

But Amari Pollard (three goals) made it 8-7 just 25 seconds later and then tied it with 4:37 to play. Klaben (four goals) put the Bees ahead for good just 19 seconds later off a feed from Kennedy Frink (four assists).

“It’s what we do every game – stumble, fumble and make it close,” said Baldwinsville coach Doug Rowe. “But it’s another win, and that’s what counts.”

Naldwinsville will play in its first title game since winning the “Division I” title in 2000 (11-10 in OT vs. Suffern) and finishing second in 1999. Suffern was making its first semifinal appearance since losing to Baldwinsville in the 2000 “Division I” finals.

When we were down, we didn’t want it to be over,” Pollard said.

Added Klaben: “”The attackers did really well picking each other off and making space for us. It’s so exciting – the state finals.”

The championship game will match Baldwinsville with a powerful Farmingdale team (ranked No. 18 by TopLaxRecruits.com) that stung the Bees, 16-5, in the season’s first game.

“We really want to get redemption for the beginning of the season,” Klaben said. “Our team’s come so far since then. We’re not the same team at all.”

Suffern coach John Callanan said his team had its chances to win.

“At one point, I think we had a chance to sort of put them away, but we made some mistakes and Baldwinsville capitalized on it,” he said. “They got goals when they needed to and won draw controls when they needed.

“It hurts in that you know you’re that close.”

The 18th-ranked Dalers (15-3) scored three unanswered goals in the final nine minutes to pull away for the victory.

Bridget Weill scored four goals and Nadine Hadnagy had three goals and four assists while Amanda Turturro scored twice for Farmingdale.

Lindsay Gamer led Penfield (15-6) with three goals.
