Moorestown (NJ) High School Lacrosse Coach Deanna Knobloch has won Positive Coaching Alliance’s coveted Double-Goal Coach Award presented by MaxPreps for her positive impact on youth athletes.
The award – named for coaches who strive to win while pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports – carries a $250 prize, a trophy and mention within the websites and newsletters of Positive Coaching Alliance. In all, 25 coaches across the country in different sports were honored; Knobloch was the only lacrosse coach named (finalists are listed below).

“Deanna helps youth athletes win on the field and off,” said Jim Thompson, founder and CEO of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and author of nine books on youth sports, including The Power of Double-Goal Coaching and the recently released Developing Better Athletes, Better People. “By creating a positive, character-building youth sports experience, and serving as a Double-Goal Coach, Deanna helps youth develop into better athletes and better people.”
Knobloch has coached at Moorestown for 22 years with a record of 450-29-4, including 17 state championships. In that time, she has cut players only once because there were just too many freshmen that year for the program’s lone freshman coach. Knobloch’s program should not be measured just by the number of wins or even how many players involved, but rather by the level of their commitment to Knobloch herself.
Wrote one player in testimonials provided as part of Knobloch’s nomination: “If I can leave high school knowing that Mrs. Knobloch is proud of me, my athletic career would be fulfilled right then. I think most coaches would agree that one of the biggest honors they can attain is having their players look up to them, and I think I speak for all of Moorestown Girls Lacrosse when I say that I would run through a brick wall for Mrs. Knobloch. It is not uncommon to find goosebumps on the arms of her players during one of her speeches, because that’s how motivational she is.
“She makes us find it within ourselves to dig deep and tells us to never give up, and after hearing one of her speeches it is impossible to not want to pour your heart out into your play just to make her happy. I could spend a lifetime trying, and still never be able to repay her for what she has done for me. She has completely changed not only the athlete I am, but the person I aspire to become…
“I could talk forever about how great of a coach she is to me, but she is also a life mentor. She realizes that life goes beyond lacrosse. She knows when to have fun at practice, and she knows when it’s time to be serious. The times we spend dancing in the locker room and laughing at parties with her will be some of my greatest memories leaving high school. Having surgery on and rehabbing my knee was the hardest thing that I ever had to do, but I would do it 100 more times if it meant that I could continue to play for Mrs. Knobloch….
“She goes through the season with class, swagger, style, and fun, but through it all, she wins. She wins games, she wins championships, and she wins the love and respect of her players every single day. She has taught me that winning goes deeper than the scoreboard at the end of a game. Winning is giving everything you have in practice the week before that game, and laughing and hugging your teammates after. She gives us a group of best friends that will last a lifetime, lessons that will last a lifetime, and a family that will last a lifetime.”
Knobloch’s Moorestown team has won the past two New Jersey Tournament of Champions titles and gone 51-0 during that span. Moorestown finished as the No. 2 team in the final TopLaxRecruits.com rankings last year and is No. 2 in the Brine/TopLaxRecruits.com rankings this week.
