BALTIMORE – Keegan O’Connor said the Boys’ Latin lacrosse team uses last year’s Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) championship loss to Loyola Blakefield as a constant motivator.

“I think the only thing on our mind is the championship (game) from last year,” said the senior attackman headed to Maryland. “We can’t get over that loss and we’re here to redeem ourselves from last year.”

Once again the Lakers – No. 1 in the Warrior/TopLaxrecruits Rankings – looked like a team on a mission today as they overcame the poor conditions to dominate Calvert Hall, 12-5. Boys’ Latin is 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA while No. 10 Calvert Hall falls to 10-3 and 2-2.

“We’ve been trying to get it all together as a team,” said O’Connor. “I feel like we strung it together today.”

Patrick Spencer scored three goals and Shack Stanwick had two goals and two assists. Colin Chell (one assist), Logan Wisnauskas, Nick Gesualdi and Matt Sacks each scored once.

The Lakers broke the game open with an 8-0 run after the game was tied, 2-2.

Sophomore Jack Pezzulla made eight stops in goal.

“Our goalie (Pezzulla) made some big saves that allowed us to string those goals together,” said BL coach Bob Shriver. “Keegan and Patrick both have good skill and benefit from people paying attention to Shack, Tally (Tal Bruno), and Colin.”

Andrew Fanshaw led the Cardinals with three goals and Joe McSorley had 13 saves.
