HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – Brendan Homire scored four goals to boost St. Anthony’s to a surprisingly easy 13-3 victory over visiting Delbarton (N.J.).

The Friars – who had not played since dropping two games to Philly Inter-Ac League squads last week – evened their record to 2-2. The Green Wave (5-1) entered play ranked 13th in the Epoch Lacrosse Rankings.

“This was a great team effort,” said Homire. “Early we were a little slow, but in the second quarter we picked up and our offense started clicking.

“We were being patient with the ball and not forcing anything and it was huge that we held them to three goals. Obviously, starting out 1-2 is rough but we played two nationally ranked teams so that was a tough test.
“But we feel really confident after this one.”

Eamon Campbell scored his first goal at the 8:19 mark of the second quarter giving St. Anthony’s a 3-1 lead. Delbarton answered at the 7:36 mark on a goal by Troy Hanlon, but Homire scored to spark a 10-0 run.

Campbell tallied two goals and five assists, Michael Laviano tallied two goals and two assists and Christopher Buscemi tallied two goals for St. Anthony’s.

“I’m happy for my kids,” said St. Anthony’s head coach Keith Wieczorek. “I think we are going to be really good this year but we went down to Philly and played two teams we probably weren’t 100 percent ready for. It was just for the timing of it.

“So today was really important for us to come out and at times dominate a very good team. I think for our kids it was validation that, ‘OK, now we are ready to go.’ This was a good statement game for us.”

The Friars play a CHSAA game Monday against St Dominic and then prepare for Wednesday first season showdown at two-time defending champion Chaminade.

“We have St. Dominic’s next, we got to take care of that one and then we have the big one against Chaminade,” said Homire. “It’s us and them all the time. I don’t think we have won at Chaminade in a couple of years so this will be a good test for us.”

John Cree grabbed nine saves and Troy Hanlon, Jack Chatwin and Andrew Ford all had one goal each for Delbarton.
