Highland Park (TX) 2016 defenseman Luke Petty has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Bellarmine University.
High School: Highland Park, TX
Graduation Year: 2016
Position: Defense
College Choice: Bellarmine University
Club Affiliations: C2C, FCA National
Major lacrosse honors: 2015 State Champion, 2015 T99 All-Star, 2014 T99 All-Star, 2014 Spot Light All-Star, 2014 D2 All-State Honorable Mention, 2012 NTYLL All-Star
Academic honors, service projects: Highland Park President Service Award 2014/2015, 2014/2015 Counselor at Camp Barnabas (Camp for Kids with disabilities)
What will you major in/study? Business
Why did you choose the school? “Bellarmine and the town of Louisville are awesome! When I visited the campus I felt that this is a place that I can excel at academically and contribute to the lacrosse team. I am excited to play for Coach (Kevin) Burns and do what I can to add to their team.”
Outlook for 2016 HS season? “Our Highland Park D1 Varsity has the chance to be better than we were last year as State Champions. We have a lot of returning starters in key positions and by the time the spring gets here we will have more D1 committed players on our team than any other in the State of Texas. I am also really excited about some of the players moving up from our D2 team. It should be a really fun year to be a Highland Park Scot!”
Thank You: “I would like to thank all of my coaches not only at Highland Park but also at C2C and FCA. Growing up playing the summers for C2C made me a better player and because of my development in the summer I was asked to play for the FCA National team which was the most rewarding opportunity I have experienced as a lacrosse player. I am thankful for all our defensive coaches at Highland Park (Coach Derek Thomson, Coach Ross Thomson, and Coach Zack Colburn) who corrected my mistakes and encouraged me to get better. I would like to thank my trainer Mark Madole at The Studio in Dallas. Without Mark and him constantly pushing me to strengthen my body I would not be the player I am today. And to my Mom and Dad for encouraging me to be the best I could be with what God gave me. Thank you also to my three younger brothers for coming to all my games and rooting me on!”
Other schools considered? Rutgers, W&L, Amherst, Tampa
