FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Haley O’Hanlon tallied two goals and two assists to boost Garden City to a 9-7 victory today over defending Class A State Champion Farmingdale at Allen Park.

The Trojans, No. 11 in the Brine/TopLaxRecruits Rankings, improved to 5-0. The Dalers fell to 3-2.

“We knew that the goalie (LIU Post signee Olivia Kirk) was going to be aggressive and we knew we had to pick it up in the second half because they were going to come out very hard being defending state champs,” said O’Hanlon, a Colgate signee. “We feel really great.

“This is our fifth win. Our spirits are so high and everyone is so positive and we just have to keep that positive energy going throughout the season.”

Farmingdale opened up a 4-2 lead at the 16:01 mark of the first half. Garden City didn’t respond until 9:45 when Margot McTiernan scored a goal off a pass from Michaela Bruno sparking a 4-0 run that put Garden City up 6-4 with 31.9 seconds remaining in the half.

Bruno tallied two goals and one assist, McTiernan and Kerry Defliese scored two goals each for Garden City.

“This was a great game by both teams,” said Garden City head coach Diane Chapman. “We were just able to get that last drop, which I think definitely helped us.

“Farmingdale is always good. They are defending State Champs of the A Class. I’m really proud about how the way the girls were able to pull it out. It was back and forth and it could have gone either way.

“Our girls just sucked it up at the very end and got a couple of crucial draw controls which definitely helped us.”

Kirk grabbed 14 saves, Bridget Weill tallied three goals and Emily Marlow tallied two goals and one assist for Farmingdale.

“If we were able to score goals I would have guaranteed a victory,” said Farmingdale head coach Shari Campbell. “Garden City is always a good team but we couldn’t score goals. We struggled to score goals today.”
