Jen Giles (five goals) scored with 1:05 left in the game to give host Mt. Hebron an 11-10 victory today over Marriotts Ridge in a Howard County (MD) showdown.
The Vikings, No. 15 in the Brine/TopLaxRecruits Rankings, improved to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in the county. No. 7 Marriotts Ridge fell to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the county. Both teams had lost only to No. 1 McDonogh.
The one-goal game was just another in a series of thrillers between the two rivals. Four of the last five regular-season games have been decided by one goal. Last year’s regular-season game was won by Marriotts Ridge in a four OT game; the Mustangs then defeated the Vikings, 11-8, in the state quarterfinals en route to a 3A/2A state title.
In this game, Chachi Kelehan had four goals for the Vikes and Tianna Wallpher paced gthe defense.
Taylor Hensh had three goals for the Mustangs while Jenna Kerr and Marissa Davey each scored two goals. Rachel Ortell (12 saves) was a force in goal.
